Two 24-year-olds have been arrested after a home search revealed over 700 credit cards and close to €12,500 in cash, stashed in shoes, a freezer, and other hiding spots.

Larnaca police received a tip-off that unknown persons were carrying out repeated transactions from ATMs, with a sting operation leading to the body search of a 24-year-old.

The search revealed that he had 74 credits cards and €8,940 in cash.

A subsequent home search by the police uncovered a further 649 credit cards – linked to various banks – and €3,470, with the cash hidden in a freezer.

The police search on Thursday found the cards to be hidden away underneath tables, chairs, inside shoes and other miscellaneous hiding spots.

The man and woman are facing a series of charges such as theft and money laundering.
