A 61-year-old worker from Aradippou is in the hospital in critical condition on Tuesday, following a work accident.

The injured man was transferred to hospital around 2pm on Monday from his work site in the Aradippou livestock zone, police spokesman, Haris Hatzigiasemi, told the Cyprus News Agency.

Aradippou police and the labour inspectors went to examine the scene. From tests carried out, it was established that the worker, in circumstances under investigation, fell from a 1.5m high container onto asphalt.

Doctors on duty at the Larnaca general hospital determined that the man had suffered a fracture and brain hematoma. Due to the seriousness of his injury, the 61-year-old was transported by ambulance to Nicosia hospital where he underwent surgery.

According to the treating doctors, the man has a severe brain injury and was put on a ventilator, while he remains hospitalised in the ICU, in critical condition.

The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the Aradippou police in collaboration with the Department of Labour Inspection.
