Theatrical performance highlights stories of Cyprus’ gay community

loulles

A staged reading in Greek directed by Diomedes Koufteros is coming to Nicosia, bringing stories from the local gay community into the spotlight. Loulles is a work in progress that will be staged at Dance House Lefkosia on May 23 and 24 highlighting stories through personal testimonies, delightful reenactments, poignant monologues with vulnerable moments, devised theatre methods and experimental storyboarding.

The performance is based on material from the CyBC archives, regarding the public discussion on homosexuality in Cyprus in the 1980s and 1990s, but also on interviews from members of the gay community in Nicosia and Limassol during the same period. Two TV shows from CyBC, a Eurovision song, a flamingo, and testimonies of gay men living at that time, make up the backbone of Loulles.

On both evenings, the performance will begin at 8pm with actor Nectarios Theodorou on stage under the scenography of Eleni Ioannou. The play lasts 45 minutes and was first presented within the frame of theYard.Residency.23 of Center of Performing Arts MITOS.
