‘Bathers in Kyrenia’ and ‘Daughters of God’ | A. G. Leventis Gallery

In this Curator’s Insights video, we head over to the Cyprus Collection of the A. G. Leventis Gallery, for a closer look at two memorable works by local artists.

Cyprus Collection curator Dr. Eleni S. Nikita takes us behind the making of Christoforos Savva’s ‘Bathers in Kyrenia’ and Loukia Nikolaides-Vasiliou’s ‘Daughters of God’, both paintings created using oil on canvas.

Savva’s evolution from Cubism into the realm of the Abstract marks him as one of the pioneers of Cyprus’ modern art scene. Nikolaides-Vasiliou, denied the full opportunity to discover and evolve creatively in her motherland, given Cypriot society’s view of the female role, expresses her oeuvre through the more intimate world of women.
