Ministry of transport buys four electric cars

The transport ministry on Friday announced that it would replace four public service vehicles with electric cars, as part of a greening effort spearheaded by the environmental department.

The electric cars were bought by the department of electromechanical services of the transport ministry for a total purchase cost of €142,324 including VAT, which translates into €35,581 per vehicle.

The project is co-financed at 85 per cent by the Cohesion Policy Fund 2014-2020 and at 15 per cent by the Republic of Cyprus.

Moreover, a ministry statement added that by the end of October four charging docks are expected to be installed outside the environmental department headquarters, three in Nicosia and one in Larnaca.

Electric cars drivers will be able to fully charge their cars at the docks in six hours.
