More than 15,000 bullets from a massive consignment of ammunition reported stolen from a cargo container last month plus two guns were located in Limassol on Wednesday, with police looking for the whereabouts of a 27-year-old male suspect in connection with the case.

Head of the Limassol police crime investigation unit, Lefteris Kyriacou, told the Cyprus News Agency that following a tip off, around 15,800 9mm bullets and two revolvers, one of them loaded, were found in a metal box that was found buried in the Amathounda area.

According to Kyriacou, the bullets were among the 50,000 shotgun cartridges and 114,000 9mm rounds which were stolen sometime between October 5 and 19, from a container owned by a licensed importer.

The two weapons are not related with the reported theft, he said. Police are investigating where they came from, he added.
