Two people were arrested at Paphos airport after trying to depart the island using fake and stolen travel documents, police said on Thursday.

The arrests concerned a 27-year-old Congolese woman, who tried to board a flight to France using a French ID that belonged to someone else, and a 25-year-old man from India who tried to depart presenting fake travel documents.

Police said the man was staying in the country without permission but gave no information as to the status of the woman.

Cyprus has recently seen an increase in the cases of irregular migrants using forged or stolen travel documents to leave the country.
