Man killed in road accident (Updated)

Police on Saturday were investigating the circumstances of a fatal traffic accident that took place in Latsia a few minutes after midnight.

Nicos Valanides, 59, from Limassol, was driving on Yiannou Kranidioti avenue ten minutes after midnight, when, under conditions that are being investigated, lost control of his car.

Police said he drove into the traffic island, then entered the opposite lane facing coming traffic and crashed into a parked van.

He was transferred to the Nicosia general hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Nicosia traffic police have called on anyone who might have any information about the details of the accident to contact the citizen’s line on 1460, traffic police on 22802023, or their nearest police station.
