Paphos police arrested two men on suspicion of robbery and assault with grievous bodily harm after a 48-year-old woman was treated in hospital on Sunday morning.

Police said they visited the woman in hospital and she named one of the suspects, 44, as being one of the assailants.

The woman said she was visited by two friends on New Year’s Day, the 44-year-old and another man, 31, who were meant to borrow some money from her.

After the two suspects left her house, the woman realised that more money than what she had given them was missing from her purse.

The woman suspected the pair and decided to visit them at their house to demand the money back. But, as she told police, she was assaulted and beaten by the 44-year-old.

The woman was taken to hospital where she was treated for a hematoma in the left eye. She was released after treatment.
