Man arrested for series of burglaries

Paphos police on Saturday arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of being behind a string of burglaries across the district.

Paphos assistant police chief Michalis Ioannou described the arrest as a great success, with the man currently having nine warrants for burglaries and one warrant for a robbery.

“The suspect was located at his house in a village after a coordinated operation by Paphos police,” Ioannou said.

During a search of the house, police found a hand grenade, and a large number of items, including gold, collectible coins, laptops, grass-cutting machines, drills and other power tools, which the police believe to have been stolen over the past six months.

The grenade was made safe by a pyrotechnician before being sent for scientific examination.

Alongside the suspect, police also arrested his 29-year-old partner for the possession of stolen goods.

Ioannou said police are trying to determine the origin of each item to tie them to the various burglaries that have taken place in the district.

The suspect has also been identified by CCTV footage from some of the burglaries.
