Two remanded after caught with illegal drugs and stolen property

A 58-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man who were allegedly caught with illegal drugs and stolen property have been remanded, police said on Thursday.

Paphos district court remanded the two suspects for six days on Wednesday for unlawful possession of drugs, burglary, theft and possession of stolen property.

The pair was arrested after eye witnesses saw them exiting a house in a village in the district and loading items into their car. Around 7.45am on Tuesday.

Officers rushed to the scene and discovered that the residence had been broken into.

Then, they located the vehicle with the two suspects, both residents of the Paphos district, and arrested them based on outstanding fines against them.

During a search in the car, a plastic container with nine plastic packages of white crystalline substance resembling methamphetamine weighing 4.5 grammes, and another eight weighing 2.5 grammes were found.

A sum of money, a scale and 17 plastic packages with the same substance found in the car were confiscated from the house of the 58-year-old woman.

Police also found 11 paintings, nine mobile phones, computer monitors, a computer tower, various electronic devices, 11 pairs of sunglasses and two military rifle cartridges were also found.
