A group of about ten delinquent youths are accused of damaging an electronic display panel of smart traffic lights in Limassol.

Police responded to the incident early on Sunday morning and were pelted with rocks when they reached the scene, at Ayios Fylaxeos, with the youths swiftly departing. No injuries were sustained but police reported on Monday that the group wore helmets and face coverings.

It was further reported that the response team extinguished a fire which had been set at the scene which lightly damaged minor items.

Shortly after the initial incident police encountered a 17-year-old on foot and two motorbikes without registration plates. Police explained that the teenager is expected to appear at a station accompanied by his father.

Police investigations are ongoing.
