A 23-year-old man was sentenced to five months in jail by the Nicosia district court on Tuesday after he was found guilty of violent conduct during a football match between Omonia and Apoel at GSP Stadium on February 15

A police statement released after the ruling said that the man was convicted for throwing objects onto the pitch during the game and for assaulting other fans at the venue.

In addition to the imprisonment, the court issued an order preventing him from attending all sporting events in Cyprus for six months.

The ban will come into effect upon his release from prison.
