A man was arrested in northern Nicosia on Tuesday for masturbating in the middle of a road.

The man was later taken to court and charged with obscene exposure, before being remanded in custody for three days.

In court, police officer Birtan Basaran explained that the man, while stood next to his van, “removed his sexual organ from his trousers and began masturbating in a way that could be seen from his surroundings” at around 1.20pm.

He said the police had received complaints from residents of the area of Nicosia, and that the man had given police a statement and a confession to his crime.

He added that video evidence of the crime had been obtained, but that police would have to examine the footage and take further statements.
