Gambling coffeeshop shuttered by court

A Paphos court has suspended the operation of a coffeeshop after a police raid found people gambling on the premises last month.

The court also banned games of chance or gambling, from taking place in the establishment.

The orders were issued at the request of the police, which filed a case against the owner on Monday.

It followed a February 25 raid, which found 14 people on the premises, seven gambling and the others hanging around.

Officers seized the playing cards and 136 chips. Police charged seven people with gambling and the others for gathering with intent.

The orders will remain in place until the case is heard.
