The last weekend of October is here and it is bringing plenty of Halloween fun, screenings, plays and exciting events that celebrate life and… death!

The season also celebrates The Day of the Dead, a large cultural celebration in Mexico that takes place every November 2 and the days surrounding it are filled with events and parades. The day signifies the opening of the portal between the worlds of the living and the dead and is an occasion for relatives to honour loved ones who have passed away. Parades take place in Mexico and beyond and for the first time ever a Dia de los Muertos Parade will happen in Cyprus.

Tonantzin, an authentic Mexican restaurant in Nicosia, organises the parade this Saturday from Eleftheria Square at 6pm, heading down Ledra Street to conclude at Tonantzin. There, a dance group will perform Mexican dances in traditional costumes while visitors sip on tequila and enjoy homemade tacos.

In Limassol, the 6th edition of the Animattikon Project will happen from October 26 to 28. Held at Rialto Theatre, 52 animated short films from 18 countries will be screened throughout the weekend, alongside a parallel programme of events that includes workshops and an outdoor party.

In other cities, several plays will continue their run. At Satiriko Theatre in Nicosia, the psychological thriller The Hitchcock Effect will be presented on Sunday evening while at the Pervolia Municipal Theatre in Larnaca, Antilogos Theatre will present Don Quixote at 11am. The same play will travel to Markideio Theatre in Paphos on Sunday for a 5pm, both in Greek.

If it is true Halloween fun you are after, plenty of venues and event organisers have themed occasions. In Avgorou, CyHerbia Park & Labyrinth has the Halloween Family Festival this Saturday and Sunday with a wide range of activities for the whole family. Malls around the island are also offering free Halloween entertainment for children while in Eleftheria Square a Halloween dance event will take place. Nicosia Sk8 Shop collaborates with Strawberry Jam to present an exciting event on Saturday from 5pm to 10pm with dance battles, costume contests, a street market, skating and music.
