Coronavirus: 27 positive cases among workers during past week

ÔÅÓÔ ÊÏÑÙÍÏÚÏÕ Covid 19 Rapid Test

One-third of rapid tests carried out during the past week concerned people working in the private and public sectors, the health ministry said on Sunday.

Between January 11 and 15, 47,241 rapid tests were carried out with one third concerning people who are required to be physically present at their workplaces.

Twenty-seven positive cases were found out of the 14,509 tests carried out among workers; 17 among people tested in industrial areas, seven in the public sector and three in private businesses.

Mobile rapid test units were dispatched during the past week in industrial areas in all districts but also tested people working in factories, construction sites, media organisations, banks, special schools and public service departments.

Between November 16, 2020, when rapid testing was introduced until Saturday, a total of 420,988 tests were carried out and 10,732 positive cases were detected with a positivity rate of 2.55 per cent.

According to the latest ECDC data, Cyprus ranks second among 29 European countries in terms of laboratory tests per 100,000 inhabitants, the health ministry said.
