Coronavirus: 40 fines for breaking protocols

A total of 40 people, including two business owners, were fined for failing to abide by coronavirus protocols after 2,777 checks nationwide, police said on Friday.

The majority of checks, 776, were carried out in Nicosia with 14 people found violating protocols, while in Limassol, 15 people were fined after 491 checks.

Paphos officers booked four people and one business after 440 checks, and Famagusta police booked five individuals and another business owner after 291 checks.

Reports said the two business owners were fined €500 each, because they failed to carry the necessary coronavirus signs and to have antiseptic in their establishments.

No violations were reported in Morphou or Larnaca after 77 and 485 checks respectively.

Meanwhile, traffic and marine police also carried out 176 and 41 checks each without any bookings.

All the checks were carried out between 6am on Thursday and 6am on Friday.
