A week full of music

Live music is thriving this month as numerous bands put on shows. Music from musicals, bluesy sounds and tunes from wind instruments are coming up this week in Nicosia and Limassol.

First up is a trio playing well-known soundtracks from old movies in Nicosia. The Katherine Petrou Trio will take the stage at Sarah’s Jazz Club on Thursday, performing a carefully selected list of well-known songs from movies and musicals such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Wizard of Oz and more. Katherine Petrou on vocals, Alexis Kasinos on guitar and Alexandros Panayiotou on bass will revisit a vintage repertoire and bring it back to life in a set that kicks off at 9.30pm.

Also happening on Thursday evening is a performance by the Windcraft Band at Kafeneio To Leoforio in old Nicosia. From 8.30pm onwards brass wind instruments and saxophones will play festive music in the band’s own style. Infused with jazz, Latin, funk and reggae sounds, the 18-piece Windcraft band will perform a special Christmas-y, uplifting concert.

On Friday night, the popular band The Zilla Project will take their signature, electric blues and blues-rock sound to Sto Perama Live in Limassol. The band has been performing all over Cyprus in major festivals, big and small clubs and this week it will bring original songs as well as electrified versions of well-known Blues classics to Sto Perama for the first time.

Come Saturday and one more band will set up its gear at Kafeneio To Leoforio to present a unique and melodic programme. The Alexis Sunder band arrives with a collection of original songs and selected covers that flirt with soul, funk and pop. The band’s musical exploration includes songs that will form part of Sunder’s upcoming EP, set for release in 2022, presented at Leoforeio in a more intimate and stripped-down version.
