02

A draft road map for how Covid-19 will be dealt with in the coming months will be discussed by the health minister and the scientific team on Friday.

CNA reported that the road map is divided into pillars, which concern, among other things, the strategy to increase the vaccination coverage of the population, the epidemiological surveillance system which includes testing, as well as the management of cases in hospitals.

The protocols prepared by the ministry of education will also be put before the experts and will be implemented at the beginning of the new school year.

The use of a masks by students aged over 12 years in closed spaces will be put on the table, with scientists invited to submit suggestions or other variations.

Speaking to CNA, the communication advisor to the minister of health, Konstantinos Athanasiou, said that the draft has already been sent to the parties involved, including the state health services organisation (Okypy).

Depending on what variant of the coronavirus is prevalent by autumn, and the epidemiological situation then, authorities will decide when it would be safe for schools to open and under what conditions.

According to Athanasiou, the final plan is expected to be approved before the end of the month.

In the meantime, Athanasiou said that a report on the installation of air purifiers in classrooms had been sent by the education ministry to the scientific team.

The European Commission has advised EU member states to prepare their individual Covid-related road maps in anticipation of autumn.
