Tourism gains new orientation

Tourism in Cyprus is gaining a new orientation, in line with the national tourism strategy 2030, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism said in a statement on Monday, ahead of World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27.

The new orientation will be, “the sustainable development of Cyprus tourism in a manner beneficial to the economy, society and the environment,” the ministry said in its statement.

This year’s theme for world tourism day is ‘Rethinking Tourism’. The ministry said that to meet this target the national tourism strategy 2030 has set a goal of making Cyprus an all-year tourist destination, with sophisticated technologies and an elevated tourist product that took into account people and the environment.

“We are therefore celebrating World Tourism Day 2022, highlighting the important role of tourism in shaping a country’s sustainability policy,” the Deputy Ministry of Tourism said.

Commenting on the sector, the ministry said, as it recovered, the World Tourism Organisation urged governments, leaders, businesses, workers, and citizens to reflect on how the future of tourism would be shaped by promoting the preservation of natural resources, the well-being of the residents of the destination, and the constructive involvement of the local community.

The deputy ministry added that emphasis on the quality upgrade of the tourist product, the promotion of mountainous and remote areas, the incentive plans for the development of special forms of tourism and the digital transformation of providers, the grant of actions that strengthen the participation of artists in the provision of authentic tourist experiences and the provision educational programmes, are some of the actions that have been undertaken by the ministry.
