Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said on Saturday that ‘Estia’ plan to evacuate foreign national from Sudan via Cyprus has been completed.

The plan was initiated on April 25, and in total 2,611 foreign nationals from 29 countries were evacuated from Sudan on civilian flights via Cyprus.

“In this respect, the Republic of Cyprus is a factor of regional stability and a safe harbour. This has been reaffirmed in recent days,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude to all the government services that cooperated in executing the plan.

“I would also like to make a particular reference to the professionalism and dedication of the officials of the foreign ministry who, under the guidance of the national crisis management team, were present at the Zenon Coordination Centre in Larnaca, while working in close cooperation with the staff of our diplomatic missions in Cairo and Amman,” he said.

Kombos also thanked the diplomatic missions of other countries that helped to cooperate in the effort.
