Greek exam ‘a mistake that should not have happened’

The head of the school teachers’ union Oelmek Constantinos Constantinopoulos on Tuesday called the inclusion of a passage in a modern Greek exam for gymnasium students, which had been previously studied at a specific school, “a mistake that should have been avoided.”

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, Constantinopoulos said the education ministry is currently considering the next steps to adopt regarding the specific case, adding, however, that nothing has yet been decided.

“Such mistakes should not occur,” he said. “Schools are required to provide students with exam texts that do not include passages found in yearly curricula.”

Constantinopoulos explained that all schools send texts and papers that were previously studied to the ministry so they do not get included in exams.

“In this particular case, a specific passage was mistakenly included in an exam,” he said.

The head of Oelmek said the union had contacted the education ministry immediately after becoming aware of the issue, adding that a decision on the situation will be announced either on Tuesday evening or on Wednesday.
