Police on Thursday arrested a suspect in connection with the car bomb incident that took place in Argaka.

According to police spokesman, Christos Andreou, in the course of investigations police obtained testimony against a 34-year-old woman, who was arrested and taken into custody in the early morning hours.

The car owned, by a 27-year-old man, exploded early on Wednesday outside his house where he lives with his wife and young child, which happened to be staying elsewhere with a relative.

According to the police, the improvised bomb exploded at 3.30am causing complete destruction of the vehicle, as well as damages to the entrance of the residence.

Community leader, Spiros Pelopida, told Cyprus Mail that this was the first time such an incident had occurred in the otherwise sleepy and somewhat remote village.

“It’s very sad and unfortunately it has to do with the general deterioration of social norms and values,” the mayor said.

Other residents expressed shock at the incident and concern since it occurred not far from the small village school.

Police are continuing investigations.
