Events in Nicosia this month are also taking place in its museums, bringing adult and child visitors closer to artistic collections, temporary exhibitions and local culture. Throughout the month’s weekends, CVAR Severis Foundation will host several activities that young children can participate in and learn about art through crafty initiatives.

On Saturday, January 13 children can scout the museum to find artworks and objects that have a pine tree, collecting in this way details about the history of Cyprus. They will then make their own collages in the form of an art book, inspired by their museum visit. The following children’s event will take place on January 20 and will take little ones on a journey back in time learning about Cyprus in the 19th century and the Cypriot railway.

Towards the end of the month, a printmaking workshop will keep children entertained by making their own stamps and printing them on cloths inspired by the museum’s collection. The morning session on January 30 will play with handkerchiefs, scarfs and traditional Cypriot patterns, touching on techniques and elements Cypriot art used throughout the centuries.

The AG Leventis Gallery also hosts several museum happenings this month, notably guided tours. The majority of them are in Greek yet an one in English will take place on January 31. Assistant curator of the AG Leventis Gallery Despina Christofidou will lead the afternoon tour from 6pm to 7.30pm. Visitors will have a chance to learn more about the temporary exhibition Asia Minor Hellenism: Heyday – Catastrophe – Displacement – Rebirth which highlights the culture and unfolds the chronicle of Hellenism in Asia Minor.
