Asylum seeker in custody for attempted travel with fake ID

Paphos District Court issued a three-day remand order on Saturday against a 26-year-old man to facilitate investigations into a case of forgery.

According to the police, the man had been arrested on Friday shortly after 7pm at ​​Paphos airport where he presented himself bound for Cologne with a Belgian passport and ID.

During the control, suspicions were raised that the documents were forged, to which the man confessed during interrogation.

According to the police, the suspect admitted to being a 26-year-old political asylum seeker and that the Belgian documents were fake.

Police arrested him and placed him under three-day detention following securing of the order.
