How biodegradable is natural-fibre clothing really?

In this video, we revisit the subject of biodegradable clothing, specifically natural-fibre apparel.

Ordinarily, many of us believe that natural-fibre clothes, such as 100% cotton, are biodegradable.

Unfortunately, though, most of the time this is not actually true.

Unlike food or beauty products, when we buy items of clothing, we only learn a restricted amount of information regarding the components used to generate it… And many of these elements – like the thread, elastics, dyes and prints/treatments – are typically not biodegradable.

This is the reason to opt, wherever possible, to recycle or upcycle clothing, as opposed to sending it to a landfill… even when it’s made of natural fibres.
