FM: Humanitarian sea corridor to Gaza in ‘technical processing’ stage

It is the collective responsibility of the 27 EU member states to turn their strong concern about the Gaza Strip into concrete actions by finding effective solutions, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said.

The minister, speaking on Monday evening at the extraordinary online meeting of the EU’s foreign affairs council, noted that the initiative of Nicosia for a humanitarian corridor does not operate in competition with others and that those who wish to can participate in it.

“In his intervention in the context of the debate, Mr. Kombos referred to the situation as it has developed in the Middle East after the October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas in Israel, reiterating that the release of all hostages is key,” a statement from the ministry said.

The minister referred to the need for “turning intense concern into concrete actions” it is added.

He re-iterated that the initiative is based on addressing the “security parameters of the key stakeholders in all its phases” and said plans were in the “technical processing” stage.

“Concluding, the minister reiterated that it is a complementary initiative that does not operate in competition with others and that those partners who wish can participate in it,” the statement said.
