Contaminated dried figs pulled off the shelf

The health services requested the immediate recall and withdrawal of a specific batch of packed dried figs, with the trade name Snackin’ Good Serano on Friday.

The figs, which are packed and distributed in Cyprus, were found to contain higher than permitted amounts of Aflatoxin B1, a food contaminant and human genotoxic carcinogen.

The ministry of health noted that “as part of [routine lab] controls […] state labs determined that the food item contained Aflatoxin B1 at a percentage higher than allowed by legislation.”

The ministry also said some packages of the contaminated batch may already be in the hands of consumers who are urged to avoid their consumption and return the packets to their place of purchase.

The warning concerns the product detailed as follows:
