Police said they have seized 3.5 kilos of cannabis and arrested a 37-year-old man during an operation in Limassol on Wednesday.

The operation was launched on Tuesday with drug squad officers put a vehicle with two male passengers, 41 and 37, under surveillance.

The car parked in an open area in Limassol and the driver, 41, stepped out, picked up a bag and returned.

Officers tried to intercept the vehicle, but the driver managed to escape on foot. The second suspect tried to drive away, crashing into a police car. At the same time, he was seen throwing out a bag.

The bag was picked up by officers who found that it contained 3.5 kilos of cannabis.

Police detained the 37-year-old on Wednesday afternoon but were still seeking the 41-year-old.
