A mobile vaccination unit will operate in Lefkara on January 7 as the health ministry steps up its vaccination drive amid a surge in new infections.

In an announcement on Wednesday, the ministry said the unit will operate at Lefkara Conference Centre on Friday, January 7 from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm as part of efforts to increase vaccinations, especially the booster jab given its importance in reinforcing the immunity of vulnerable groups of the population.

The Lefkara mobile unit was arranged after consultations between Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantelas and Lefkara Mayor Sofoclis Sofocleous. Health officials will be on the spot to brief the public on the benefits of vaccination and to answer questions and concerns.

Only the following groups will be eligible:

  • People aged 12 and over that have not yet been vaccinated against Covid (first dose)
  • People aged 12 and over who have received the first dose of Moderna or Pfizer/BioNTech and the required time-period has elapsed for the second dose (Moderna four weeks and Pfizer three weeks).
  • As regards the booster/third dose, this will be administered to people aged 18 and over, provided five months and two weeks have passed from their second dose
  • For people who have received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, they can receive either the same vaccine or an mRNA vaccine (Moderna) for their booster.

Everyone must present ID (ID card, passport, alien registration card) as well as their vaccination card if they are due to receive either their second or booster jab, the ministry concluded.
