Man arrested for attempted murder in Paphos (updated)

A 27-year-old man was arrested early on Tuesday in connection with the attempted murder of another man in Paphos.

The victim was found at his apartment in the early morning hours after police received information about an injured person in an apartment on Bouboulinas street at around 1.30am.

The 36-year-old-man was transferred via ambulance to Paphos general hospital, where he was diagnosed with skull fractures and damage to a blood vessel in the brain.

Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was then taken to Nicosia general hospital where he underwent brain surgery. He remains hospitalised intubated under sedation in critical condition.

Doctors supposed the victim was hit in the head with a crowbar. Officers are looking for several suspects.

Paphos police cordoned off the crime scene for examinations. They said they are assessing CCTV material from nearby businesses.

As part of the investigations, the 27-year-old man was arrested in the district around noon.

Preliminary investigations showed the attack was due to financial differences.
