Social security staff on twenty-four hour strike

strike

A branch of employees from the social insurance services are holding a 24-hour warning strike on Tuesday.

According to a statement, the strike is taking place because of disagreements following the decision to restructure the department.

The directors of the service ask for the public’s understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The Labour Ministry reacted negatively to the strike, saying the strikers’ demands “cannot, as a matter of fact be satisfied”, as they are “outside of the framework of the public service”.

They said the position of civil servants’ union Pasydy was for “a large number of new positions” to be created within the social insurance service.

They added that “today’s strike will not contribute positively to the development of the matter,” adding that the strike is “unnecessary, without purpose, and will have a negative impact on the service offered to ordinary people”.
