An evocative journey through the Mediterranean

christiana aloneftis 1920x1080

A voice and piano recital will take place at the stunning venue of The Shoe Factory in old Nicosia next month. Soprano Christiana Aloneftis will join forces with the renowned collaborative pianist Mikhail Berlin, an associate of the University of Arts in Bremen and music director of the Wertinger Festspiele, to take audiences on an evocative voyage through the Mediterranean.

Described as a “genuine discovery”, soprano Aloneftis has been praised for her “gorgeous, resonant voice” and her “strong musical and dramatic commitment”. A child of the Cypriot diaspora, born in Melbourne and now based in Munich, Christiana trained on invitation, at the Bavarian State Opera, after completing studies on full scholarship at the prestigious École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris.

Since then, she has performed a number of operatic roles and appeared throughout the world in prestigious venues and with notable orchestras. As she prepares for her Cyprus concert, the vocalist is also getting ready to perform in the semi-finals of the Ningbo International Vocal Competition in December, for which she qualified as one of the top 30 singers in Europe.

Until then, Nicosia awaits. On Friday, November 10 at 8.30pm, Aloneftis will take the floor with Berlin to perform art songs by Spanish, Italian and Greek composers, including de Falla, Granados, Albéniz, Tosti, Puccini, Respighi, Constantinidis, Kalomiris and Samaras.
