Tourist operators and residents of Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias are satisfied with tourism in the area as they are seeing the same numbers as last year, community leader Nicos Cleanthous said on Tuesday.

Tourists had seen a boost since last weekend, Cleanthous said.

Hotel units in the area have been renovated and are serving guests, he added, as the plans of the ministry of tourism having helped a lot.

The aim of the community is to extend the tourist season, he added.

Most visitors to Kato Pyrgos Tillyrias are Cypriots, mainly from Nicosia but also from other areas of Cyprus.

In Kato Pyrgos there are four hotel units and several apartment complexes.

On Sunday deputy minister for tourism Savvas Perdios said that a study into tourism in the Polis Chrysochous and Pyrgos Tyllirias area will be presented next week.

“We felt there was a lack of a holistic plan to make the wider area of Polis Chrysochous as well as the area of Tylliria a sustainable tourist destination,” the minister said.

He said he hoped the suggestions made for the area can be adopted as part of the national tourism plan, adding the plan would aim to develop sustainable tourism in the area by 2030.
