A 32-year-old man was remanded for eight-days on Thursday under suspicions he was involved in seven explosives cases, which Limassol police have been examining.

According to police, the man, who was arrested on Wednesday, had been placing explosives for various individuals that would pay him afterward.

Limassol Police Spokesman Lefteris Kyriacou said that the suspect was approaching targeted locations to place explosives on an e-scooter, which police seized as evidence, after examining CCTV footage.

Kyriacou said that he was arrested on Wednesday, after police received an anonymous tip about an explosive located in an area in eastern Limassol.

He added that the description of the explosive that had been placed matched descriptions of other explosives placed in previous months.

“Immediately members of the Limassol police rushed to the area for examinations. This item had not been located at the location that had been reported to us, but the examinations continued in the area and a suspicious vehicle was located and inside it, it was seen that there was a suspicious item, which looked like the explosive incendiary item that we had information about,” he said.

Asked about the involvement of other individuals, Kyriacou said that it is still early to tell the degree of their involvement.

The crimes were committed between April 25 and July 4 in the Limassol district.

He was arrested and taken into custody to facilitate investigations.

When interrogated, the 32-year-old allegedly admitted to committing one of the crimes which took place on June 23.

Limassol CID continues investigations.
