Man remanded for possession of child pornography

A 36-year-old man was remanded in custody for eight days in Larnaca on Thursday after allegedly being in possession of child pornography.

The man was arrested on the same day following an investigation by the police’s cybercrime department in relation to the sharing of files pertaining to the sexual abuse of minors on the internet by an internet user based in Cyprus.

After verifying the details of the suspect and obtaining a warrant, police carried out a search of his home on Thursday morning.

During the search, police found “a number of files” containing material pertaining to child sexual abuse on the man’s hard drive and arrested him.

Police seized the computer in question, as well as a mobile phone and an external hard drive for electronic data storage which were also found on his property.

Their investigation into the case is ongoing.
