Members of the House refugee committee will visit Brussels next week to urge EU officials to put pressure on Turkey to help find Cyprus’ missing persons.

According to committee chair Akel MP Nikos Kettiros, the members will meet rapporteur of the EU Parliament Isable Santos to discuss the matter.

Kettiros said that the committee has met the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP), relatives of the missing, and the Humanitarian Commissioner in Cyprus ahead of the Brussels trip.

He said they will discuss with Santos about pressuring Turkey to give access to more military areas in the north and opening military archives in Turkey so that more research can be done into the movement of remains.

They will also discuss the budget of CMP, which he said has increased to €4 million, and can be solved with funding from the EU and other countries that have expressed interest, such as Switzerland.
