One more festival returns to fill the city with arts and culture before the year wraps up. The Nicosia Pop Up Festival is back and until December 31 it invites the public to join its activities and watch its performances on Makarios Avenue and in the old town. Numerous local artists are participating with their projects and events have already begun!

Co-organised by the Nicosia Municipality and NiMAC, the 2021 festival takes place at City Plaza and OPAP Theatre in Nicosia, hosting more than a dozen performances, workshops, events and local artists’ shops. The Pop Up Festival, Nicosia Mayor Constantinos Yorkadjis said “has been established as the event that supports and promotes innovation and creativity in business, hosts more than 150 creators, and has even been recognised as the best European practice in promoting creative entrepreneurship.

“It would not be an exaggeration to say,” he added, “that the festival is a step forward for people who create. It is a celebration of youth entrepreneurship, innovative ideas and welcoming art. Because, precisely, the new creators are not invisible to us. They are the people who have to come forward to gain a voice and shine through their unique creations.”

The main goal of this year’s festival remains to support the local community. In addition, the festival will bring together in the capital all things innovative, inventive and creative in the field of youth entrepreneurship, entertainment, culture and education.

It is a theatrical monologue presented in Nicosia for the first time this Tuesday and Wednesday. Then on December 16 and 17, the Yasemin Collective will present a one-woman show titled Nat in Da House with actress-performer Natalia Panagiotou on stage.

A clay workshop inspired by ancient Cypriot pottery will take place at the weekend where participants will learn basic hand-building skills and attempt to recreate historical Cypriot bowls and figurines. Led by Stamna Studio, two three-hour sessions will be on. One on Saturday and another one on Sunday both at 3.30pm. Also on this December 18 and 19 is the play Stelios Theocharou’s Wild Stories presented by the Women’s Movement of Ecologists, while about a dozen more events are set to take place until the end of the year. All celebrating a town that wants to honour local creativity.
