Four people, three men and one woman are under arrest as Paphos police investigate a case of burglary and car theft.  Two men are being held for conspiracy to commit an offence, illegal possession of drugs, possession of burglary tools and illegal possession of property. The other man and a woman were arrested for providing assistance after an offence.

Paphos police deputy chief Michalis Ioannou told reporters that at around 9.00 pm on Monday, after a tip off police pursued a vehicle on Eleftherios Venizelos Avenue.  Unspecified as to how, the suspect vehicle drove into the upstream traffic, collided with a police vehicle, and then crashed into a house wall. While the 29-year-old driver fled the scene, the police managed to apprehend his co-driver, another 29-year-old man.

During the incident, the two suspects were seen throwing a bag out of their car which was picked up by the police who found inside various burglary tools, a camera, and a chain. Inside the car, the police also found three bundles with fourteen keys and various tools for which the 29-year-old co-driver could not give satisfactory explanations as to how they came about in his possession and he was arrested for illegal possession of property as a result.

Following the arrest, the police searched a house in Paphos in connection with the case and found the 29-year-old wanted driver who had fled the scene earlier, hidden inside a closet. The man was arrested following a warrant pending against him in connection to burglary and car theft, offences committed in Paphos between April 3-4, 2022. A small quantity of cannabis was also found in his possession.

The two tenants of the residence, a 26-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were also arrested for assisting the offender.
