Man arrested at Paphos airport for impersonation

A 29-year-old asylum seeker of African origin was arrested at Paphos airport on Tuesday night for impersonation after he attempted to travel to France with another person’s ID card.

The police on Wednesday detailed that the man presented his supposed documents to officials at 7.30pm on Tuesday night to try and board a flight to France.

Officials acknowledged that the ID card was genuine but that the person depicted on the document was different to the person presenting it.

Paphos airport has emerged as a hotspot for asylum seekers travelling abroad with often forged documents – with France proving a popular destination.

Just two days ago two others were arrested in a similar case at Paphos airport, while last week another case was uncovered.
