Coronavirus: Establishment fined €4000 for breaking decrees

A Nicosia café was fined €4000 because the employee responsible for checking whether customers had a SafePass was not wearing a mask, the Cyprus News Agency said on Thursday.

In another Nicosia café, a member of the staff was fined €500  not having a SafePass while an employee at a barber shop in Paphos was fined €500 for not wearing a mask.

The three cases were among a total of 28 individuals and four managers of premises who were reported for violating the decrees to contain the spread of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

A police spokesman told the news agency that in the 24 hours ending at 6.00 am on Thursday, police had carried out a total of 4045 checks.

In Nicosia, 1034 checks led to six citizens and two managers of premises being booked while in Limassol after 331 checks, 11 citizens and one business were booked. In Larnaca two citizens were booked after 575 checks, in Paphos one citizens and one manager after 256 checks, in Paphos seven individuals were booked after 607 checks and in Morphou no violations were found after 88 checks.

Traffic and the marine police carried out 203 and 50 checks respectively with no violations being found.

One individual was booked at Larnaca Airport.
