Coronavirus: 89 people booked for breaking decrees

Cyprus police booked 89 citizens during the last 24 hours for breaching the measures against the spread of Covid-19.

A police spokesperson told CNA that a total of 11,205 checks were carried out islandwide from Thursday 6.00 am to Friday 6.00 am local time. He noted that the citizens were booked for not sending an sms for movement, for not wearing a face mask and for breaking the night curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. of the next day.

In Nicosia the police carried out 2,923 checks and reported 12 citizens, while in Limassol 2,835 checks were done and 34 citizens were booked. In Larnaca the police carried out 1,175 checks and handed out fines to nine citizens. In Paphos 1,256 checks were done and 11 citizens were booked, in Famagusta the police carried out 1,224 checks and reported 13 citizens, while in Morphou they carried out 694 checks and booked three citizens.

The Traffic Department carried out 1,052 checks, and handed out fines to seven citizens. The Emergency Response Unit carried out seven checks without reporting anyone.

The Port and Marine Police carried out 39 checks, without reporting anyone as well.
