Man remanded for assault and causing severe bodily harm (updated)

A 57-year-old man from Famagusta has been remanded for three days as part of an investigation into a case of assault and causing serious bodily harm against a 28-year-old and a 25-year-old in Ayia Napa.

The case was reported to police by the 28-year-old.

According to the complaint, while the 28-year-old was with a 25-year-old at around 5am on August 1 outside a store in Ayia Napa they were attacked by a group of unknown persons.

The strangers allegedly hit them on various parts of their bodies and as a result, the two victims were taken to hospital.

The 28-year-old received first aid and was discharged, while the 25-year-old was kept in for further treatment.

From police investigations, testimony was secured against the 57-year-old and he was arrested.

The three-day remand was ordered by Famagusta district court.
