The establishment of a Limassol branch French Cypriot school is another expression of the ‘long-standing excellent relations’ between Cyprus and France, Education Minister Prodromos Prodromou said at the inauguration on Tuesday.

Saying how ‘special and touching’ the inauguration of a new school is for the minister of education, Prodromou expressed his pleasure at carrying out the ceremony with the French ambassador to Cyprus, Salina Grenet-Catalano.

“Cyprus-France relations are today at the highest level and we wish that this is reflected in education, in addition to other areas,” he said. “The school we are inaugurating today is yet another expression of the long-standing excellent relations between Cyprus and France and our will to constantly strengthen them.”

The creation of the French Cypriot school implements the decision of President Nicos Anastasiades and French president Emmanuel Macron. In a recent meeting, the two leaders, summarised the progress in recent years, namely the extension of the teaching of French in secondary education and support and expansion of the French Cypriot school and the creation of its branch in Limassol. The quadrilateral cooperation between France, Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Greece on ancient languages in public school sand the inclusion of the DELF SCOLAIRE French language certification in public schools were also mentioned.

In Nicosia, the French Cypriot School is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year and “today hosts more than 450 students” according to Prodromou.

The French Cypriot School of Limassol is the ‘natural continuation’ of the one in Nicosia, and has ‘particular potential’.
