In line with its commitment to promote public health awareness, Alphamega Hypermarkets is an active supporter of the European Commission’s #GetScreenedEU campaign, which aims to promote cancer screening awareness in Cyprus.

In the second half of November, Alphamega Hypermarkets’ promotional brochure will feature information on the #GetScreenedEU campaign, emphasising the importance of early cancer prevention and detection. By doing so, the chain collaborates with the European Commission (EC) to encourage women in Cyprus to get tested for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers. These simple and quick cancer screening tests, which take only minutes to complete, have the potential to save lives.

Alphamega’s brochure includes a QR code that directs readers to the EC’s website for additional information on the European-wide initiative. The site provides comprehensive data on the significance of cancer screening tests, along with specific information about the screening process and how to schedule appointments in all EU member states, including Cyprus.

The European #GetScreenedEU campaign stresses that cancer is more treatable when detected early, as early diagnosis broadens the spectrum of effective treatment options. Therefore, the promotion of cancer screenings should neither be overlooked nor postponed.

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women in the EU, with estimates showing that one in every 111 women faces the risk of cervical cancer. Additionally, colorectal cancer ranks as the second most prevalent cancer among women and the third among men. For these three types of cancer, the availability of screening tests enhances the effectiveness of treatments, thereby saving lives and improving the patients’ quality of life.

As part of its preventative health initiatives, the EU aims to ensure that 90 per cent of people who qualify will get tested for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers by 2025.

Through its vigorous support of the #GetScreenedEU campaign, Alphamega advocates for women’s health, promoting cancer prevention and the significance of early detection.
