A British resident of Avgorou, Famagusta, aged 77 died on Monday evening after the moped he was driving was hit by a car.
According to police, the moped was hit by a car driven by a 47-year-old man on Karyon street in Avgorou, at around 6.45pm. The driver, who was trying to make a right turn, cut off the moped that was coming from the opposite direction and caused the pensioner to be thrown from his vehicle.
He was taken to Famagusta general hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The Brito, police said, was wearing a protective helmet. The 47-year-old was given a breathalyser which showed zero alcohol consumption.
