Energy meeting to be held in Israel

Nicos Kouyialis

Nicos Kouyialis was due in Israel Saturday as part of a two-day visit during which he will meet Israeli Energy Minister Silvan Shalom.
“The visit is taking place following the signing on August 8 of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cyprus, Greece and Israel regarding the countries’ cooperation in the fields of energy and water resources,” an Agriculture Ministry statement said.
Discussions with Shalom will focus on the energy efficiency of desalination plants, waste water management, the use of recycled water for agricultural purposes and the safety of dams and desalination plants, the statement added.
Kouyialis is expected to return to Cyprus on Tuesday.
On Thursday Noble Energy partners in Cyprus’ block 12, Delek Drilling and Avner, announced that a decision to perform a production test, the so-called drill stem test, at Aphrodite A-2, located in Block 12 in Cyprus’ EEZ has been approved.
A press release issued by the two companies noted that an estimated budget for the production tests (100 per cent) is approximately $64 million.
Production tests are expected to start in the coming days and last for approximately a month, their release adds.
A drill stem test (DST) is a procedure for and testing the pressure, quality and productive capacity of a geological formation during the drilling of a well.
Exploratory drilling carried out by Noble energy in 2011 revealed an estimated resource of 5 trillion cubic feet (tcf) to 8 tcf, with a mean of 7 tcf. Noble Energy began an appraisal well last June, with results expected late September.
Noble Energy operates Block 12 with a 70 per cent working interest. Delek Drilling Limited Partnership and Avner Oil Exploration Limited Partnership each own 15 per cent. On June 26, Cyprus government, Delek and Avner signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with regard to the construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in Cyprus.
