Three arrested on drugs charges

Three people have been arrested in Limassol on suspicions of drugs possession.

The three were caught by police who had put them under surveillance. When they moved in to arrest a 27-year-old driving a car, he sped up and fled the scene with officers in pursuit.

Police said, as the car fled, the driver threw a nylon bag out of the window which they said contained what appeared to be cocaine. Around a kilo of the substance was recovered, they said.

At some point, the 27-year-old abandoned the car he was in and attempted to get into another, which was driven by a 20-year-old. There was a passenger in the car, also 20. But before they could get away, the trio was arrested.
