Greek lessons start on TV

PRIVATE Turkish Cypriot TV channel Kanal Sim yesterday began broadcasting Greek language courses.

According to the station’s general programming manager Sami Özuslu, the goal of the courses is to contribute to a peace culture and that regardless of a solution or not, there is a need for the two communities to be able to understand each other.

Özuslu told the daily Yeni Düzen that Greek language courses are a first for a TV station. He urged Greek Cypriot channels to offer Turkish language courses too.

The programme, “I Learn Greek with Hasan Tuna”, will be aired twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Tuna studied Greek language and literature.

The programme will teach the Greek alphabet plus words useful to everyday activities. There will also be animations and theatrical sketches.
